In North America there are two birthdays…country birthdays. In Canada there is Canada Day, formerly Dominion Day that celebrates the founding of Canada. In the United States there is Independence Day, sometimes referred to as the Fourth of July, which celebrates the founding of the United States of America. Both events are in early July.

Each of us has two birthdays as well, we have our natural birth date and our spiritual birthday, the date we were ?born again.? In a sense it was a day of freedom for us as well, as our scripture says. Jesus makes us truly free. What a gift to sinners, what gratitude should well up in our hearts. Canada and the US are great countries, but the Kingdom of God is the greatest of all.

So with all the memorial celebrations, in these two countries over these important dates, it produces a question: How much more do we have to be thankful for each Sabbath as we come to worship the King of Kings?
